Christmas Merry-go-Round: Vintage Postcard Carousel

Christmas Merry-go-Round: Vintage Postcard Carousel

Back in January of this year, I was thrifting at my local Habitat ReStore and spotted a spinning photo frame that was in excellent condition. I was fresh off a Christmas high, with several “coulda, shoulda, woulda” holiday project ideas bouncing around in my head. But it was January and time to move on, right?

Nope. I put the frame in my cart and filed away this Christmas idea for a later time…and finally, FINALLY, that time is now.Read more ›

Deck the Halls…with Repurposed Ornaments

Deck the Halls…with Repurposed Ornaments

As a December 26th baby, I feel a special connection to Christmas- even if a birthday at this time of year is pretty underwhelming. Coupled with my love of repurposing and upcycling, it should come as no surprise to anyone that combining the two- Repurpose/Christmas- is something I look forward to each year. And while I haven’t done that many of them, repurposed ornaments are an exceptional favorite. I’ve made DIY snowball ornaments from thrifted glass balls…pretty painted “icicles” from vintage spindles…wreaths from mason jar lids…and this year’s favorite, tea strainer / chandelier crystal ornaments.Read more ›

Vintage Snow Shoe Christmas Door Décor

Vintage Snow Shoe Christmas Door Décor

It’s hard to believe, but it was way back in March of this year when I spotted an old time-y snow shoe on the wall of a local shop. Even though I was in full Spring mode at the time, I snapped it up with a Christmas holiday idea in mind…the trick would be remembering where I stashed it for the rest of the year!Read more ›

Christmas Ornaments using Vintage Tea Strainers and Chandelier Crystals

Christmas Ornaments using Vintage Tea Strainers and Chandelier Crystals

There was a small but elegant chandelier just inside the front door of my childhood home. And one of the few cleaning tasks I actually enjoyed helping with was taking off the dangling crystals and giving them a yearly bath. Fast forward 30-some-odd years, and I still love a pretty chandelier crystal…so when I found this bag of…umm… “Phone Supplies” while thrifting, I squealed with glee.Read more ›

Have Yourself a Serger Little Christmas…

Have Yourself a Serger Little Christmas…

If you live in or have traveled to the Carolinas, then you may know that this area has a long history in textiles. The mills still dot the landscape, with one in nearly every town- some are dilapidated, some just empty, some of have been converted into new commercial/residential use, and then there are still a few that operate to this day! So it should come as no surprise that relics of that industrial textile mill history (such as these old serger thread cones) can be found in nearly every antique store (and sometimes thrift shops!) in the region.Read more ›

Booked for the Holidays: Individualized Party Coasters

Booked for the Holidays: Individualized Party Coasters

Sometimes I walk the aisles of thrift stores and have “near-craft experiences”, which is when I have a repurposing idea immediately, right there in the shop. But there are plenty of times when I find a treasure with potential but don’t have a clear vision in mind. That, my friends, is what happened when I came across this adorable vintage set of coasters that looked like a bookcase of encyclopedias!Read more ›

Game, Set, Cross Stitch: Vintage Wooden Tennis Racket Needlework

Game, Set, Cross Stitch: Vintage Wooden Tennis Racket Needlework

I don’t know about you, but I just love all of the oversized cross-stitch project ideas scattered across Pinterest. Whether it’s on a large peg board or on a cane back chair, they just look amazing- and I’ve wanted to try my hand at it for a while now.

But I was plagued- how would I do this and be unique? You know me- I gotta be different!

I was bemoaning this very thing to my gal pal while we were out junkin’ one day. And like a beacon from the upcycling deities, my eyes fell upon a beat-up vintage wooden tennis racket.

Yule Love It: Jack Stand Christmas Lantern

Yule Love It: Jack Stand Christmas Lantern

If you were here with me this past Halloween, you may remember the lunchbox craft challenge I received from The Farm at Rabon Creek. They’re the ones that host the amazing Farm Fresh Fair every September- one of my favorite vintage/craft festivals! Anyway, I didn’t walk away with just the lunchboxes…I was also given a vintage jack stand.

Double-Axel Upcycling: Cheese Dome Ice Skating Pond

Double-Axel Upcycling: Cheese Dome Ice Skating Pond

To this day, some of my favorite Christmas decorations include my waterless snowglobes. I don’t know what it is about them- perhaps that I made them myself…and that they include vintage “bits”… but I just love that look: A quintessential Christmas scene captured under glass.

While out thrifting a few weeks ago, I came across this cheese board/dome that just screamed “REPURPOSE ME!”. I knew right away that I could use the idea of a waterless snowglobe with the cheese dome, so it came home with me.
