When you think of Augusta, Georgia, chances are visions of golf, azaleas, and green jackets come to mind, thanks to The Masters tournament. But I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy Augusta…or its sister-from-across-the-river city, North Augusta (which is in South Carolina). One of my all-time favorite vintage shops is in Augusta, and was the catalyst for this trip. But this time around, I checked out a few other shops and wanted to share them with you!Read more ›
For several years now- literally, years- Jon and I have made plans to take a long weekend in Charleston, South Carolina…but for whatever reason, our plans have been scrapped due to any number of reasons. Finally, FINALLY, we made hotel reservations that we didn’t have to cancel, and a list of shops and eateries that we actually got to try!
And let me tell you- it was worth the wait. We had a MAGNIFICENT time and already have a list of places to check out during our next visit. If you are a junker, a shopper, a foodie, a beer snob, and/or a history buff, then Charleston needs to be on your Bucket List.
Now, truth be told, my kind of junk shopping does not fall under the category of “fine antiques”. While there is plenty of highfalutin antiques within Charleston proper- and we ambled all over the gorgeous downtown districts- most of my shopping happened in every direction surrounding the city! North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, and Johns Island offer plenty of vintage shops, none of which are very far by car. So hop on board and let’s get started!Read more ›
If you put together one part vintage, one part craft, one part upcycling, and one part farm-on-a-rolling-countryside, you’ll get the makings of a FANTASTIC annual festival that those of us in the know call the Farm Fresh Fair. Located at the Farm on Rabon Creek in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, the Farm Fresh Fair is quickly becoming one the preeminent vintage fairs in the South.
It was highlighted in Garden & Gun Magazine after all…
So when the date rolled around again, my friends and I gathered the troops and headed to the Farm.
Indie Craft Parade. Who knew three little words could make a girl so giddy? (Well, in addition to those other three little words…)
I haven’t been able to attend for the past couple of years, so I was crazy-excited to check it out this time around. Instead of waiting until the weekend, however, my ladies and I (The Bad Pennies) hit up the VIP event beforehand. Drinks in hand, we entered the shopper’s paradise called Indie Craft Parade– Greenville, South Carolina’s premier festival for handmade arts and crafts.
Eighty artists waited for us- their booths set up, their wares beckoning to us- and our shopping will power melted away. Functional, obtainable, locally crafted art from corner to corner- it was a bounty of makers and I was in heaven.
I made several laps. I had to- it was sensory overload in a blissful way, and I needed to swing by each vendor several times.
And of course…I found some new favorites…

My first post about my adoration of Greenville, SC and South Carolina’s Upstate focused on food- oh the delicious meals we consume here! But in between meals, I do quite a bit of shopping for project bits…from antique shops to thrift stores, we have a pretty good selection of options, which is handy for a crafter/junker like me! Here are some of my FAVORITE shops to hit- maybe some inspiration for you this weekend!Read more ›
