Well, my summer mantelscape is nearly complete, but I decided to try one more project to finish it off. You may recall that I recently posted my Summer Jar project, and those are working the mantel quite nicely, along with some driftwood and pretty antique glass bottles in aquas and blues. I had thought some antique Japanese fishing floats would fit in swimmingly- but I never ended up finding any in my recent trips to various antique stores.

Up until 2009, I’d always lived near a shoreline- half my life along the shores of Lake Michigan, and half my life bouncing between the Gulf and the Atlantic in Florida. Though I now feel settled and home in the foothills of the Appalachians, I do have fond memories of the windswept, deserted beaches in Southwest Michigan. Maybe not quite as exotic as a tropical locale, but full of treasures- crinoid bits, pretty Petoskey stones, beautiful beachglass, and gorgeous pieces of driftwood.Read more ›
