Small Batch Mother’s Day: Favorite Handmade Gift Ideas

I can seriously hardly believe that the end of April is here and it’s time (almost past time!) to shop for Mother’s Day! I’m just about ready to declare 2015 as the fastest moving year ever.

Last December, I did a “12 Days of Etsy” series on my Facebook page, featuring 12 of my favorite Etsy shops. Ya’ll know I love to find new makers- vintage, upcycling, and handmade- and I especially love sharing their shops and pages for all to see! So in honor of moms everywhere, here are 12 fantastic shops offering fun, unique, and handmade gifts for Mother’s Day.Read more ›

Upcycling in the Great Outdoors: Favorite Yard & Garden Projects

Upcycling in the Great Outdoors: Favorite Yard & Garden Projects

As the last hard frost date quickly approaches and local garden centers start coming to life, I am reminded of some of the fun repurposing projects I did for our yard last year! As you may recall, our yard qualified as Certified Wildlife Habitat which is something I’m proud of…AND I’m always looking for new ways to bolster our certification. I’m just as excited about getting my garden beds in shape for the Spring planting season and watching our azaleas bloom in Technicolor.

In other words? I’m ready for S-P-R-I-N-G!

I’m already planning new projects- porch décor…bird feeders…gardening “helpers”…BUT I can’t help but reminisce about the upcycling projects for our yard that I finished last year. I picked out of a few of my favorites…perhaps you can use these as inspiration for the upcoming yard sale and vintage festival season!Read more ›

Sadie Spotlight: Chürp – Modern Birdhomes

Sadie Spotlight: Chürp – Modern Birdhomes

Back in September 2014, I attended Indie Craft Parade here in Greenville. While shopping, a friend snapped a photo of me holding my latest purchase. Lo and behold, I noticed the most amazing bird houses behind me in the photo!

Having grown up outside of Chicago with both my parents and grandparents hailing from Oak Park, I am all too familiar with mid-century modern architecture and the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. In fact, my grandparents volunteered at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, giving tours and the like. So, for sentimental reasons, I was particularly drawn to Matt Estrada’s amazing creations and his company, chürp- Modern Birdhomes.

Clearly I need one of these pieces for my backyard- I’m always looking to expand my wildlife habitat options! And I also wanted to know more about chürp …so without further delay…Read more ›

Tick Tock for your Feathered Flock- The DIY Birdhouse

You may recall in this post that I recently visited the Goodwill on Broughton in Savannah, GA. Well, while I was there, I stumbled upon a sweet little desktop clock that was perfect for a specific project. AND you may recall from this post that I’ve got a yen for creating more wildlife habitat options in our backyard. Well, my friends, the time has come to finally transform the clock into its new purpose in life- a birdhouse!Read more ›

Eco-DIY: Certified Wildlife Habitat

Eco-DIY: Certified Wildlife Habitat

When we were house-shopping last year, I fell in love with the backyard of the home we ultimately purchased. I loved the house, too, but the serenity of the yard- despite being smack dab in the middle of a suburban community- was impossible to resist. So when I found out about The National Wildlife Federation’s Garden For Wildlife Program, I knew our yard was a perfect candidate to be Certified Wildlife Habitat.

So maybe this isn’t your typical post from me! BUT I don’t know how well-known this program is, so I definitely wanted to write up a post on it in case ya’ll want to work towards certifying your own yards!Read more ›
