So Charming: Vintage Rhinestone Button Bracelet

So Charming: Vintage Rhinestone Button Bracelet

Oh my gosh, it’s January already- how is that even possible? Happy 2017! And to start the new year off right, I’m doing it with sparkles.

I had seen versions of this idea floating around on Pinterest and just KNEW I had to make my own. I’ll be the first to admit that I actually prefer vintage rhinestone ANYTHING over real diamonds- crazy, I know! Anyway, this is wonderfully easy to make…the hardest part is actually collecting the vintage rhinestone buttons! But over time, I gathered a handful of pretties in different shapes and sizes. The common denominator (other than rhinestones, of course) is that they were all shank buttons.

“Coined” Metal Button Jewelry

“Coined” Metal Button Jewelry

When I was a little girl, I loved looking through my mother’s jewelry box. In fact, I still enjoy doing that whenever I visit! I clearly remember one of my favorite pieces of hers- it was a bracelet made of layered old coins, sandwiched between two chains. I had also been a quasi-coin collector as a kid, so the bracelet really struck my fancy.

As I reminisced about my mom’s old bracelet, I stumbled across an artisan who has created a gorgeous line of jewelry using smashed metal buttons…which, ironically, resemble old coins! So I give her all the credit for this amazing DIY idea- an idea I instantly fell in love with.
