Stencil Storage in a Repurposed Magazine Rack

Stencil Storage in a Repurposed Magazine Rack

I have a confession to make- I’m REALLY excited about today’s project post. Not only did it solve a storage problem I had, but it’s also an announcement of sorts. I’ve joined the “Thrift Store Décor Team”, which is a group of the most amazing upcycling/transformation bloggers around. Once a month, we all repurpose a thrift store piece (something small- no big furniture) to post on the second Wednesday of the month. And at the end of my post, you’ll see ‘before’ photos of their projects with direct links to click on for the ‘after’ results! These are ladies I’ve followed and admired for YEARS, so it’s pretty humbling for me to be included.Read more ›

How to Create Craft Paint Storage in Old Drawers

How to Create Craft Paint Storage in Old Drawers

This project came about as a result of an exciting new opportunity for me! A couple of months ago, I became part of the DecoArt Art Room Team. You’ve probably seen DecoArt products (craft paint, decoupage medium, stencils, etc.) at your favorite craft store…and you’ve definitely seen little bottles of their paints in my project photos over the years. They were my favorite brand long before I got a chance to work with them.

ANYWAY…I have a LOT of their products and needed to up my craft paint storage game. I fell in love with this paint storage idea from Create & Babble, and wanted to create something similar. But of course, I wanted to repurpose something as part of my project- so I decided to use old salvaged drawers!Read more ›

“Ensconced” Organization for Gardening Tools

“Ensconced” Organization for Gardening Tools

A couple of years ago, I made a simple repurposed clip board for our gardening/work gloves– both of us had a bad habit of flinging them off in the garage and struggling to find them the next time we needed to wear them! And let me tell you- having the clip board has been a life (and glove) saver! So, when I found these outdated bucket sconces at a thrift store, I decided make something similar for my gardening hand tools.Read more ›

So, if my memory is correct, I’ve made a Bracelet Holder…a Necklace Rack…and a Brooch/Pin Holder so far. Obviously I needed to work on something for my rings, so here we go!Read more ›

Upcycled Storage and Organization Project Ideas

Upcycled Storage and Organization Project Ideas

People tell me constantly that they have no idea how to “get into” upcycling- and they ask me how I come up with all of my ideas. I wish I could tell them that I’m the Sorceress of Repurposing, but the truth is, I’m not- I just enjoy finding a different use for something, regardless of what that “something” is.

And yes, upcycling is trendy and hip and all the rage, but really, we’ve been doing it for generations. Did your mother ever store leftovers in empty margarine containers? If you grew up in a cold climate, did she ever slip plastic bread bags over your feet before stuffing them in your snow boots? That, my friends, is upcycling in its most simple and purest of forms.

Wine & Pie Message Board

Wine & Pie Message Board

A quick glance through Restoration Hardware’s website (or a stroll through their store) will show you just how sublime the “industrial/rustic-chic” style of home décor can be. And it will also show you just how much money people are willing to spend on that style.Read more ›

Stuck on You: DIY Magnets and Crafting Tips

Stuck on You: DIY Magnets and Crafting Tips

After I posted my cookie sheet magnetic memo board blog post, I was tickled by all of the response to the magnets I used. Not that folks didn’t like the memo board, but they were definitely curious about the magnets.

So, another blog post was born!

DIY magnets are old-hat for crafters like me. They aren’t difficult to make and there is an endless supply of options to turn into magnets. But, I’ve made them often enough to not only have some favorite crafting bits but also some helpful tips. This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.Read more ›

“Found Objects” Brooch Holder

“Found Objects” Brooch Holder

I have to admit, this project is a play on an idea I saw on Pinterest. The original idea involved an antique oil can, with a large industrial spindle slid onto the long spout. Then, rolls of jute were pushed onto the spindle- and ta-da, a pin holder!

I loved the idea, but I was a little concerned about placing an old oil can on my dresser. Sure, I have a handful of them- but they’ve stayed untouched because I’m not overly excited about finding a way to clean them…and possibly drain them, as needed.

But I did need something to hold my brooches, so I decided to improvise. This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.Read more ›

Ribbon Spool Organizer from a Paper Towel Holder

Ribbon Spool Organizer from a Paper Towel Holder

So here I am again with something that can barely be called a “craft”. BUT, this is a really inexpensive way to organize and store those spools of ribbon we all keep buying from Michael’s. You know EXACTLY what I’m talking about, don’t you?Read more ›
