My Upcycled Herb Garden, Part 2: Shower Caddy

My Upcycled Herb Garden, Part 2: Shower Caddy

Last month, I introduced my three-part upcycled herb garden series with Part 1- by sowing herb seeds in rusty, thrifted muffin tins / pans as starter pots! But several weeks have since passed and it’s time to bring you Part 2, which involves another repurposed thrift store find…Read more ›

“Ensconced” Organization for Gardening Tools

“Ensconced” Organization for Gardening Tools

A couple of years ago, I made a simple repurposed clip board for our gardening/work gloves– both of us had a bad habit of flinging them off in the garage and struggling to find them the next time we needed to wear them! And let me tell you- having the clip board has been a life (and glove) saver! So, when I found these outdated bucket sconces at a thrift store, I decided make something similar for my gardening hand tools.Read more ›

Upcycling Alchemy: Turning Fiber Baskets into “Metal”

Upcycling Alchemy: Turning Fiber Baskets into “Metal”

Ok, I have to admit- after the exciting results from my DIY Windmill Project, I became obsessed with the spray paint I used. And so, while this newest project isn’t exactly complicated- it’s one of those “DUH!” projects that is ridiculously simple, but warrants a post nonetheless.Read more ›

A Sad Footstool Gets Re-Tooled

Oval Frame “Easter Eggs”

Oval Frame “Easter Eggs”

I can’t quite explain why I love vintage oval picture frames so much…but I just DO! And when I see them in thrift shops, I snap them up, no questions asked. While brainstorming for new project ideas (by tidying up my Craft Room), I realized something:

Oval picture frames look a little like Easter eggs…Read more ›

Hudson’s Bay Inspired Winter Décor

Hudson’s Bay Inspired Winter Décor

The colorful stripes of a Hudson’s Bay Point Blanket are burned into my childhood memory, thanks to a great-uncle in Canada. He had gifted one to my parents as a wedding gift, and it came in awfully handy during the classic Chicago winters of my childhood. And while the blanket itself is long gone, I was able to purchase an amazing tote bag using one that had been repurposed! Read more ›

Lampshades Repurposed into Hanging Herb Baskets

Lampshades Repurposed into Hanging Herb Baskets

Years of thrifting and repurposing have taught me a few things- and one of those is that secondhand shops will ALWAYS have outdated lampshades available- in every size, shape, and color imaginable. So, with gardening on my mind (and a quirky idea for my latest post on The Good Life blog), I headed to my local Goodwill.Read more ›

How Much is that Quilt in the Window (Project #1)

How Much is that Quilt in the Window (Project #1)

A few weeks back, the Mister and I were traveling through the North Georgia mountains on a little weekend getaway. And surprise, surprise- we stopped and shopped at a couple of secondhand stores along the way. And with the vintage-junk angels singing above, I came across an old quilt at a Habitat ReStore…well, actually TWO old quilts.Read more ›

Goodwill Blogging: From Basket to Candy Bowl- A Halloween Makeover! (October 2015)

Goodwill Blogging: From Basket to Candy Bowl- A Halloween Makeover! (October 2015)

October is almost over- how is that possible? But before it slips away, I wanted to bring to you my latest upcycled project for The Good Life Blog! If you’ll recall, I was asked to be a part of this fun group of thrifty bloggers, brought together by Goodwill Industries of the Upstate/Midlands South Carolina. So far for Goodwill, I’ve blogged about DIY Wall Art and Creating a Thrifty Gift, and this month I went with a Halloween theme. And this is a project that is SO SIMPLE that literally anyone can do it, I promise. It uses just three things- a basket, orange paint, and some black felt- that’s it!

I developed this project by accident- I was in my local Goodwill with a specific idea in mind, and headed to the shelf in Housewares where I thought I could find what I needed. Well, wouldn’t you know it, but Goodwill had secretly moved things around and put their selection of baskets in that spot instead! And from that sea of beige, this little white basket all but jumped out at me! This post contains affiliate links for your crafting convenience.

Vintage Scarf Suncatchers: Simple and Unbreakable!

Vintage Scarf Suncatchers: Simple and Unbreakable!

Back when I made my Aromatherapy Eye Pillows from vintage scarves, I had mentioned that my good friend, Kate DiNatale Vintage, had given me a bag of vintage scarves that she couldn’t sell. Some were stained, or had small holes…but they all held potential for upcycling so she gave them to yours truly! I’m still working through the stash and came up with this fun repurposing project, perfect for the sunny days of summer!Read more ›
