100+ Upcycling Craft Ideas in 2020

100+ Upcycling Craft Ideas in 2020

I’m fairly certain that NONE of us are sad to say goodbye to the year 2020. And I won’t dwell on the worst parts of 2020 that caused so much horror. But, I *WILL* spend time looking back on some of the upcycling craft ideas that my friends and I (The Thrift Store Decor Team) came up with throughout the past year.

At the very least, 2020 was filled with inventive creativity at home to keep us occupied. And it pushed me to create more projects for my blog, using up clutter from my garage.

Whether it was a cluster of florist vases that I transformed into exotic boho decor

Or piles of wall baskets and woven trivets that became a colorful basket wall gallery.

Either way, I had a LOT of time at home to work on projects and flex my creative muscles. Even with a big move to Charlotte, NC mid-year!

What about you? Did you find yourself making/creating more throughout the year?

Now that 2020 is nearly over, the Team and I are taking a look back at some of our favorite upcycling craft ideas.

I’ve selected a few of my favorite projects from the Team, but keep scrolling to see the full collection!

This terrarium in a vintage coffee carafe by House of Hawthornes is just DARLING. You all know how much I love miniatures, so this upcycling craft idea really caught my eye.

Since I also love marrying misfit pieces together, this little footed tray that Our Southern Home made really spoke to me. It’s so simple, but would you ever guess that those feet used to be dresser knobs?

I also thought this makeover on a trio of sunburst mirrors that Petticoat Junktion did was quite striking! Like something you might find at a curated home decor boutique.

These four mismatched wooden canisters sat in my garage for YEARS. I gathered them one by one and finally transformed them into a matching set with a midcentury vibe!

This DIY stoneware vase was inspired by pricier versions in home decor stores. But My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia created her version with one of my favorite craft supplies: textured spray paint!

And who doesn’t love a great organizer project from the thrift store? I know I do, and so does Domestically Speaking, because this little farmhouse style organizer is just the cutest!

You’ll want to hit the thrift store (or maybe your garage) because there are SO MANY great ideas in here.

Don’t you feel inspired to get crafty with things you’ve picked up from the thrift store? Or even just a makeover on something in your own home.

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane as much as I did. What a year it’s been, with hopefully a much brighter 2021 on the horizon! I’m definitely ready to put 2020 in the rearview mirror.

And here’s hoping for even more fun upcycling, crafting, and creating next year.

  1. What a great collection. Should give us all a bunch of ideas. You have been instrumental in helping me see potential in things to upcycle! Although I am retired and kind of a homebody, I have stayed home a LOT more this year and crafted more, too! And not being a winter person, I will continue to stay home!
