Sometimes I am flush with project ideas, but then there are the scary droughts. And you guys, I was in a drought recently- all sorts of self-doubt creeped in, my thrifting luck dried up, and I just needed to step back for a bit. But, thankfully I felt the gears in my head start to turn again when I stepped back into a thrift store and found this outdated memo board thingamajig. “Found Objects” Brooch Holder

I have to admit, this project is a play on an idea I saw on Pinterest. The original idea involved an antique oil can, with a large industrial spindle slid onto the long spout. Then, rolls of jute were pushed onto the spindle- and ta-da, a pin holder!

I loved the idea, but I was a little concerned about placing an old oil can on my dresser. Sure, I have a handful of them- but they’ve stayed untouched because I’m not overly excited about finding a way to clean them…and possibly drain them, as needed.

You’ve probably figured out by now that I’m a bit of a jewelry hoarder; Accessories have always been my “thing”. Funky necklaces, flowing scarves, and quirky handbags have always trumped any outfit I’ve worn- as is the fate of many short, round gals.
