How many times have I found something interesting at a thrift store…brought it home…repurposed it for my blog…and then realized I didn’t know what to call it? I’ll answer that for you- LOTS AND LOTS OF TIMES. And so we have this thrift store find: a wooden candle stand or perhaps a wooden candelabra. Regardless of proper name, though, I knew right away I wanted it to become a ribbon organizer.Read more ›
Shotgun!: Brevard, North Carolina (A Junkin’ Journey)
*** Please note that this post on Brevard, NC has not been updated since early 2016. I had planned on updating it in 2020-2021, but as we all know, those years changed on a dime! So, please check back later for a freshly updated post. ***
I love to sit down, study the map, and figure out where I want to head to next for my latest junkin’ journey. For obvious reasons (money, time…), I tend to stick relatively close to home- with the occasional longer sojourn to further-away stops. But for right now, I decided to head back into western North Carolina.
What can I say? I’m a sucker for a mountain town.
So we headed up the mountain- literally- to Brevard, North Carolina. Home of the White Squirrel Festival, Brevard is a charming little town with an equally charming Main Street. And I’m happy to report, several charming little shops to explore…shall we?Read more ›
Playroom Wall Decor from a Retro Board Game

My husband is a board game-junkie and we’ve reached the peer group that appreciates nostalgic toys, Which means that there are always an abundance of classic board games in our house. I love the colorful game boards and wanted to upcycle one into a clock; perfect as home office or playroom wall decor.Read more ›
Boho Storage for Jewelry from a Silverware Tray

I know everyone always talks about “Spring Cleaning”, but let me tell you- January, for me, is all about the purge! Organizing goes hand in hand with decluttering, so I decided to upcycle a recent Goodwill find into some Boho storage for jewelry. Read more ›
Antiquing and Thrifting in Knoxville, TN

I don’t know about you, but I love to visit college towns. They are perpetually injected with youth and the funky vibe that comes from college coeds. So, revisiting Knoxville, TN moved to the top of my junkin’ journey list!Read more ›
Fabric Organizer with a Wooden Gun Rack

A friend of mine found this wooden gun rack at a thrift store and figured I could upcycle it into something fun for my blog. And she was right! I mulled over different upcycling ideas before it occurred to me that it could become a fabric organizer for scrap fabric. And transforming it into my vision wouldn’t be hard at all!
Christmas Cross Stitch on a Wooden Tennis Racket

I don’t know about you, but I just love all of the jumbo cross stitch project ideas scattered across the blogosphere. Whether it’s on a large peg board or on a cane back chair, they just look amazing; and I’ve wanted to try my hand at it for a while now. I wanted to get in on the fun but in my own unique way: with Christmas cross stitch on the head of a wooden tennis racket!Read more ›
Christmas Tree Lantern from a Camper Jack

A friend of mine was cleaning out her barn when she asked me, “Could you do anything with this?”. She was holding a camper jack, and all I could think was that it reminded me of a Christmas tree.

Winter Christmas Scene under a Cheese Dome

To this day, some of my favorite Christmas decorations include my waterless snowglobes. I am a total sucker for anything miniature. Which means that vintage Christmas in miniature is kind of a double whammy for my heart. And when I spotted this cheese dome at the thrift store, I knew it was destined for a similar idea.
Picture Frames that Look Like Christmas Presents

When I was a little kid, a local restaurant would “wrap” the artwork on their walls to look like Christmas presents. I always loved seeing the large “gifts” hanging on the wall during the holiday season. So much so that I decided to recreate that look myself, by upcycling some picture frames to look like Christmas presents.
