25+ Upcycling Ideas for Plant Markers / Plant Labels

Repurposing and upcycling random items from the thrift shop, that junk drawer in your kitchen, or even your yard into plant labels or plant markers is one of the easiest (and most creative) projects I can think of. The possibilities are truly endless- from wine bottles, to small frying pans, to wooden spoons, and beyond. Read more ›

How to Build a Potting Bench that is Portable for a Small Yard / Garden

How to Build a Potting Bench that is Portable for a Small Yard / Garden

Every Spring and Summer, my Pinterest and Facebook news feeds are filled to the brim with big, beautiful potting benches! Whether constructed from pallets or old doors, or even a genuine vintage potting table, they are stunning and, well, LARGE. But, here’s the thing- I’m a gardener on a very small scale…I simply don’t have the space for the classic potting bench. So, I set forth to create something on a smaller scale…Read more ›

Vertical Herb Garden with a Standing Shower Caddy

Vertical Herb Garden with a Standing Shower Caddy

Last month, I introduced my three-part upcycled herb garden series with Part 1- by sowing herb seeds in rusty, thrifted muffin tins / pans as starter pots! But several weeks have since passed and it’s time to bring you Part 2, which involves another repurposed thrift store find: A standing shower caddy.

My Upcycled Herb Garden, Part 1: Muffin Pans

My Upcycled Herb Garden, Part 1: Muffin Pans

Real Life Confession- I love the idea of gardening more than I love actual gardening. Can anyone else relate? I also look forward to summer Saturday mornings with girlfriends as we bop from farmer’s market to farmer’s market.

BUT. But…I still enjoy having planted herbs around as the weather warms up! So, this year, I’ve decided to do a three-part herb gardening upcycling series…starting with today’s post: Part 1- Muffin tins!Read more ›

Using Bed Springs to Hold Bird Nesting Material

Using Bed Springs to Hold Bird Nesting Material

Creating repurposed and upcycled projects for the yard- particularly birds- is something I just can’t stop doing! But this one is different- I promise. This idea came about from two unrelated thought paths in my head: (1) What could I repurpose to create a holder for bird nest material?, and (2) When will I finally be creative with old, rusty bed springs?Read more ›

Garden Art with a Garden Trellis Made from Farm Tools

Garden Art with a Garden Trellis Made from Farm Tools

This project started out when I thrifted several old garden shovels for a Halloween project. Well, try as I might, the spooky project was a failure. I let the dust of my frustration settle before going back to the drawing board- I had the farm tools after all- I just needed a new idea! Eventually, I settled on the idea of building a garden trellis that would serve as garden art and primitive decor for my yard.

Hanging Bird Bath from a Casserole Dish Lid

Hanging Bird Bath from a Casserole Dish Lid

Once upon a time, we had a hanging bird bath, the concept of which I really liked. BUT, it was plastic and impossible to clean and refill- needless to say, it didn’t come with us when we moved! Replacing it has been on my upcycling to-do list for quite some time, and I finally set my mind to it. Y’all know I love to create a good outdoor/yard project, too, so let’s get right to it.Read more ›

The DIY Garden Gatherer: A Sling for Blooms

The DIY Garden Gatherer: A Sling for Blooms

Spring fever has definitely hit our house- every weekend, we’re working in the yard and getting our garden beds prepped for a summer of homegrown veggies and fruits. Flowering trees are losing their blossoms as tender green leaves push their way forward- watching the ebb and flow of seasons is truly magnificent.

And now that I’ve recapped last year’s Yard & Garden upcycling projects, I can focus on outdoor projects for Spring 2015!Read more ›

Tick Tock for your Feathered Flock- The DIY Birdhouse

Tick Tock for your Feathered Flock- The DIY Birdhouse

You may recall in this post that I recently visited the Goodwill on Broughton in Savannah, GA. Well, while I was there, I stumbled upon a sweet little desktop clock that was perfect for a specific project. AND you may recall from this post that I’ve got a yen for creating more wildlife habitat options in our backyard. Well, my friends, the time has come to finally transform the clock into its new purpose in life- a birdhouse!Read more ›

Eco-DIY: Certified Wildlife Habitat

Eco-DIY: Certified Wildlife Habitat

When we were house-shopping last year, I fell in love with the backyard of the home we ultimately purchased. I loved the house, too, but the serenity of the yard- despite being smack dab in the middle of a suburban community- was impossible to resist. So when I found out about The National Wildlife Federation’s Garden For Wildlife Program, I knew our yard was a perfect candidate to be Certified Wildlife Habitat.

So maybe this isn’t your typical post from me! BUT I don’t know how well-known this program is, so I definitely wanted to write up a post on it in case ya’ll want to work towards certifying your own yards!Read more ›
