Jewelry Storage Ideas to Upcycle

Jewelry Storage Ideas to Upcycle

When someone asks me about easy upcycling projects to try, I always recommend something in the realm of organization and storage. There are so many thrifted finds that can be turned into “holders” of sorts, with or without additional hardware. And these jewelry storage ideas are all excellent examples of that- because they’re all upcycled and started out as cast offs on the thrift store shelf.

DIY Earring Holder

This DIY earring holder might be one of my all-time favorite jewelry storage ideas. And even though I gave it a makeover for a whole new look, I could have hung my earrings on it as soon as I brought it home from the thrift store. And it rotates, which is a total bonus when I’m looking for a specific pair!

Jewelry Storage Ideas with Milk Glass

There are a lot of upcycling ideas out there for jewelry storage and organization. But this one is extra special because it repurposes all sorts of milk glass vases and dishes! Stacking bangles on vases, gathering brooches in bowls, and dangling earrings on scalloped edges has never looked lovelier.

Upcycled Ring Holder

Any old box can be upcycled into a ring box with this upcycle idea. In this case, a thrifted cigar box was filled with fabric-covered “cushions” that cradle and display your favorite rings perfectly. No more getting lost and no more getting dusty!

Repurposing a Drawer

Every so often, you can find random drawers at your local Habitat ReStore. Who knows why they’ve been orphaned, but it doesn’t matter because there are tons of ways to upcycle them. Including this super handy jewelry organizer that is easy to make and wonderfully handy.

Jewelry Hanger

Perfect for a dorm, apartment, or other space-limited residence, this jewelry hanger is truly an all-in-one deal. And it started out as a very outdated and unattractive memo board- but now, it’s quite the handy showstopper.

Vintage Soda Crate

An antique soda crate is ideal for holding any number of things these days. And yes, jewelry is definitely one of them. Because those little cubbies are ideal for cuffs, little dishes for earrings and rings, or even eye-catching brooches.

Jewelry Storage Ideas in Flannel

Your old flannel shirt still has lots of life left in it, even after you no longer wear it all the time. Case in point: turning the shirt pockets into soft, safe jewelry bags for your most delicate pieces.

The details for this flannel project, along with more than 50 others, can be found in my book, “Crafting with Flannel” by Sarah Ramberg.

Candelabra Jewelry Tree

A stuffy candelabra isn’t something you see in today’s far more casual world. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t still useful, even in unorthodox ways. Check out how fabulous this one is as a jewelry tree- it just needed a few tiny tweaks!

Fun with Hardware

I love to paw through random hardware at Habitat ReStores or architectural salvage stores. You never know what you’ll find and there are any number of things to use them on. Including different jewelry storage ideas, like this one on a repurposed sign. I really, truly love the look of the different mismatched hooks, too.

Brooch and Pin Holder

I have this tendency to buy vintage brooches even though I rarely wear them. But that’s neither here nor there- instead, let’s focus on the brooch holder I made from an unidentified thrift store find! I now think it was a steak knife holder, but I may never know for sure.

Jewelry Storage Ideas with Picture Frames

Thrift store picture frames are incredibly versatile for things OTHER than photos and paintings. Take this DIY earring holder for example. The frame is so ornate and pretty, and with some decorative tin, it’s the perfect thing to hang your earrings on.

Coffee Mug Tree

Mug trees grace a LOT of thrift store shelves- and some of them are better than others. If you happen to find a particularly stable or sturdy one, then this easy upcycle might be just what you need for your cuffs and bangles.

Jewelry Storage Ideas with Salvaged Wood

If you stumble across a particularly pretty piece of salvaged wood, then snap it up if the price is right. Because with the addition of a few hooks, it can become a gorgeous necklace hanger like this. I also love the idea of hanging it on the back of a closet door like this blogger did, too.

Mirrored Dresser Tray

There is a specialty spray paint that can give plain glass a mirror-like (or mirror-esque) finish. Which means it’s incredibly easy to turn any old picture frame into a dresser-worthy jewelry tray like this. This upcycle idea is a great DIY gift idea, as well.

Bracelet Organizer

I live in the Carolinas, which was once a hotbed of textile mills. So, we find relics of that past in our antique shops and thrift stores fairly frequently. Including large spools like this one, which was easily upcycled into an organizer for clasp bracelets. A little decoration and a few cup hooks are all you need for one of the easiest jewelry storage ideas to make.

Upcycled Jewelry Armoire

For those of you with more DIY skills and some power tools, here’s a wonderful way to upcycle a large mirror. This DIY jewelry armoire is a great way to store all your pretty baubles, keep them dust-free and out of sight, AND have a mirror handy when you try them on.

Divided Tray

You know those wooden silverware holders that fit into kitchen drawers? They pop up at thrift stores and are perfect for upcycling into a space-saving organizer like this! Necklaces, bracelets, rings, and brooches all have a spot with this jewelry storage project.

Long Necklace Hooks

Admittedly, long necklaces can pose a challenge when it comes to jewelry storage ideas. But this upcycled project is truly as easy as it gets and is perfect for long chains. Simply add small hooks to a tall or long picture frame and voilà- all your long necklace concerns are solved.

Spools for Your Jewels

As someone who loves vintage wooden spools and salvaged wood, then this DIY necklace rack a marriage made in upcycling heaven. It’s easy to make and does a great job at holding lots of baubles while keeping them orderly and untangled at the same time.

Jewelry Storage Ideas from the Thrift Store

Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and more- all of those sparkly treasures can be kept neat and tidy with a little help from the thrift store. It’s amazing how many unique yet practical projects exist for jewelry organization, and I hope of these ideas hit home for you. Now, time to go thrifting and get all those beads, chains, and gemstones safe and stored!

Craft on!
