Is it just me or has the popularity of Halloween skyrocketed over the past few years? I mean, I’ve always loved the holiday- as both a kid and an adult. But, there just seems to be a LOT more emphasis on the holiday nowadays. Which means that a lot of us may be interested in a few more thrifty and easy Halloween decorations for our homes. And I think I can help you out with that!
Easy Halloween Decorations with Glass Light Shades
Glass light shades from ceiling fans and bathroom sconces often end up at thrift stores after a remodel. But look how PERFECT they can be as little ghost lights! This Halloween craft takes just a few minutes to make, and their eerie blue/indigo glow makes all the difference.
Upcycled Halloween Pillows
If you spot an inexpensive orange pillow at the thrift store, make sure to snap it up. Because with a few felt cut-outs, you can create some ADORABLE Halloween pillows for next to no investment. Not only is this an incredibly thrifty craft idea, but it’s super easy to do, too.
Spooky Silhouettes
Embroidery hoops from a thrift store are fun to upcycle into Halloween silhouettes for any of your favorite creepy characters. And they appear to “float” inside their hoop frames, too- thanks to another thrifted find.
Modern Macramé Ghosts
Looking for a modern, more boho approach to your Halloween decorations this year? Then this modern take on a macramé ghost is perfect for you! And don’t worry if you have zero experience with macramé- these fun ghost decorations require zero knot tying expertise.
Creepy Candles
You know those Christmas window candles that are always at thrift stores? Well, they are even BETTER when spookified for Halloween- and it’s a super easy upcycle that anyone can do. See- I told you that thrifty and easy were the names of the game!
Glam-o-Lantern
Plastic Halloween candy buckets are usually easy to find at thrift stores, but they don’t have to stay that garish shade of bright orange. A boho-modern makeover with copper paint turns that plastic tub into a festive and chic planter for your Halloween home decor.
Easy Halloween Decorations with Figurines
You know all those dust-catching figurines that fill up thrift store shelves? A little black paint and some haunted red eyes transform them into the spookiest little figures for your Halloween decor. ESPECIALLY if they happen to be a little broken- missing arms or a crooked head just add to the creepiness. Talk about easy Halloween decorations, eh?
Recycled Halloween Wreath
If you’ve been looking for easy Halloween decorations in the form of a wreath, then look no further. This upcycled Halloween wreath is SUCH a great idea. Believe it or not, but this wreath is made from those pesky plastic grocery bags that always add up way too quickly.
Wooden Tray Ghost
This sweet and simple ghost decoration is about as easy and thrifty as it gets. Made from a trivet tray, it was missing its tile trivets and cost next to nothing at the thrift store. But that shape- that perfect ghostly shape- could not be ignored, right?
Jack-o-Lantern Door Hanger
Remember how we used to put paper plates on top of wicker chargers to feel fancier? It seems silly now, but a LOT of those paper plate holders ended up at thrift stores. And it just so happens that they’re perfect for repurposing into a jack-o-lantern door hanger.
“Floating” Ghosts
These friendly little ghosts appear to float, but there are no strings attached. That’s because they have a secret underneath, and it’s something you can easily find at just about any thrift store.
What a Ghoul Pillow
Similar to the no-tying macramé ghost decorations I showed you earlier, this throw pillow is SO cute- and so easy to make. Not only does it look fresh and on-trend, but little to no craft skills are required to make your own version!
Easy Halloween Decorations with Doilies
Let’s face it- a lot of Grandma’s doilies end up at thrift stores. But you can upcycle her hard work into Halloween crafts like a fun spider web to hang on the wall. This Halloween craft project is especially perfect for any torn or stained doilies, as well.
Easy Jack-o-Planters
Terracotta flower pots from the thrift store are already orange-ish, which can only mean one thing: Jack-o-lanterns! And faux cacti as their “stems” is just the icing on a Halloween cake, if you ask me. This is definitely one of the easiest Halloween crafts out there.
Upcycled Thrift Store Art
Thrift stores are full of framed art- some are good, some are bad, and some are just outright weird. And since all’s fair in love and thrifting, who says you can’t put a Halloween spin on thrifted wall art like this? Sure, it helps to have a little talent with a paint brush, but this Halloween craft idea is fun to try no matter your skill level.
Easy Halloween Decorations with Light Fixtures
Habitat ReStores are chock full of salvaged light fixtures. And small globe ceiling lights like this one are usually easy to come by. It’s a good thing, then, that they are super easy to upcycle into light-up jack-o-lanterns like this, eh?
Jack-o-Lantern Coasters
Since we’ve already upcycled some thrifted flower pots, let’s not forget about the terracotta saucers that go underneath them. Aren’t they delightful when repurposed into jack-o-lantern coasters? Another one of the easiest Halloween crafts you can make.
Fun with Funnels
Candy corn is another great Halloween symbol to incorporate into your decorations this year. And mismatched funnels (vintage metal ones or their modern plastic counterparts) are a great way to do this. Spray painted in classic candy corn colors, they become a very “sweet” decoration to make!
Halloween Porch Decor
A large straw tote bag from the thrift store is perfect for turning into a jack-o-planter for your front porch with this upcycling idea. Doesn’t it look frighteningly festive when filled with potted mums?
Thrifty and Easy Halloween Decorations
One of the best parts of Halloween is the cast of characters associated with the holiday. Jack-o-lanterns, witches, ghosts, and more ensure there are tons of ideas out there for easy Halloween decorations. Heck, even a collection of black cat figurines from the thrift store (or Grandma’s house) works perfectly as Halloween decor. Sometimes, all you need is the right idea and a thrift store run to create fabulously spooky decorations in a budget-friendly way.
Craft on!
