Fabulous Summer DIYs and Thrift Store Makeovers

Fabulous Summer DIYs and Thrift Store Makeovers

If you’re anything like me, then you’re looking forward to a MUCH more exciting summer this year than last. From visiting family to spending time with friends, this summer holds so much more promise. And if you’re looking for some ideas for DIY summer decor or summer DIYs for your porch or back yard, then I think you’ve found the right blog post.

My upcycling blogger friends and I thought it might be a lot of fun to gather our favorite summer DIYs together into one big collection. Whether you need decorating ideas or inspiration for entertaining, there’s probably a project idea in here for you.

I always gravitate towards all things coastal during the summer months. So, I have a LOT of beach-inspired upcycling projects to share. But one of my favorites are these nautical bottles I made for a “Thrift the Look” post a few years ago.

Do you remember what I upcycled to make that huge jug? What fun thrift store finds both of those were!

But not EVERY summer project needs to be beachy. I also upcycled some vintage planters into citronella candles to burn outside. Aren’t they charming?

I’ve also upcycled old light fixtures into magical “firefly” lanterns, which are perfect for summer nights outside. Fireflies are one of my favorite aspects of summer; do you love them, too?

I’ve made plenty of other summer DIYs, too, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Before I show you the entire collection, I want to share some of my favorite summer project ideas from my fellow Team members first.

Summer DIYs from the Team

As soon as I saw this seahorse collage with tiny seashells from Domestically Speaking, I was in love! I see button collages in various shapes all the time, but the tiny seashells just really sets this one apart.

Does it get any cuter (and more summery) than this? House of Hawthornes made this backyard table by upcycling a vintage wagon. SO cute and colorful!

And what about making a DIY hammock from a drop cloth? What a BRILLIANT idea from My Repurposed Life. And heck, I’d even use of one mine with paint schmears on it to make one for our yard.

Back to the beach for a moment with this upcycled shell holder from Petticoat Junktion. I love the makeover she gave to it in order to show off her beach treasures.

Now THAT’S how you summer, with all these wonderful projects to make the season fun, memorable, and full of life. Such as these mosquito-repelling mason jar lanterns I made for the Charlotte Region ReStores…

Which were your favorite summer DIYs from everyone? Was it something beachy, or something outdoorsy, or maybe something patriotic in red, white, and blue?

I’m not sure how many summer DIYs I’ll actually get done this year, as the house we’re building should be wrapped up in August or September. So, my focus will be on moving and all things related to that.

BUT, I’m sure excited about all the projects I’ll be able to make for the new house, that’s for sure!

I hope we’ve given you loads of project inspiration for summer DIYs this year! Whether you are looking for DIY summer decor ideas or ways to improve your outdoor living in the yard, we had a great time gathering this project collection together.

Happy Summer from the Thrift Store Decor Team!

Thank you for this post. Great ideas!

  2. Does the invite link have certain browser requirements? I can’t ever get them to work on my phone

I wish I knew the answer to this, Sarah. 99% of folks can view all the links just fine, but there are always a few that can’t. And for the life of me, I don’t understand why. I’m so sorry about that and wish I had a solution!

  3. Thank you for finding all of these projects; it is a great collection!
