Fun fact- I can’t stand eating mushrooms. But, boy oh boy…will I fill my house with decorative versions of them! And I’m certainly not the only one who feels this way, because mushroom decor is EVERYWHERE these days. Mushroom trinkets are disappearing from thrift store and antique mall shelves faster than ever befor. But, thankfully, there are lots of ways to create and upcycle your own mushroom decorations and I’ve gathered some ideas for inspiration.

Fabric Mushroom Decor

Ahh…who doesn’t love a good scrap buster project? And these fabric mushrooms are a great way to use up your funkiest (or prettiest) fabric scraps. Plus, think of all the fun applications to use these fabric fungi on, too- displays like this, wreaths, garlands, you name it.

Champagne Cork Mushrooms

I know a lot of us save our wine corks for craft projects, but what about champagne corks? Because a lot of them resemble a certain fungi we know and love. Obviously, I turned mine into Christmas ornaments, but you could use these cork ‘shrooms in any number of ways.

Planter Decorations

Toadstools and garden decorations go hand-in-hand, don’t they? Luckily for all of us upcyclers out there, they are also relatively easy to make using any number of thrifted finds! Look how charming these garden mushrooms made from vintage Jell-O molds are…and they add a fun touch of whimsy to your porch planters and garden displays.

Clay Display

These are some fabulously realistic-looking mushrooms, aren’t they? But they’re not real…they’re made out of air dry clay, making them ideal for forestcore-inspired cloche displays like this.

Book Mushrooms

If you’re a fan of books AND mushrooms, then this craft idea for mushroom decor is perfect for you. I love all the creative ways people are upcycling thrift store books, and these 3D ‘shrooms are a fun new example of it.

Enchanted Forest Wreath

The cottagecore decor trend has everyone looking for mushroom and forest-inspired decor, and for good reason. Look how magical this natural wreath is! Like an enchanted forest floor that’s inhabited by sprites and fairies, waiting to greet you every time you come home.

Miniature Jar Scenes

I love capturing cuteness inside vintage jars, so OF COURSE I had to make a mini mushroom version. I was lucky enough to find vintage spun cotton toadstools for my jar craft, but modern replicas are also available.

Toadstool Trinket Tray

There is so much to love about this mushroom decor tray idea. From the cute toadstool (of course) to the fact that the entire tray is crafted from paper and paperboard scraps, it’s just a fabulous recycled project from start to finish.

Furniture Leg Fungi

We already know that vintage Jell-o molds are ideal for repurposing as mushroom caps. But furniture legs as mushroom stems? Brilliant! What a fun way to upcycle and make some decorative fungi…

Vintage Mushroom Canisters

Vintage “Merry Mushroom” canisters have become a thrift store unicorn these days. But once upon a time, I’d seen them at thrift stores constantly. I finally snatched one up and transformed it into a hidden pincushion like this. But before anyone gets mad at me, the entire exterior was left unaltered.

Wine Cork Ornaments

With mushrooms and toadstools on trend like they are, it’s no surprise to see mushroom ornaments hanging on a Christmas tree. And these DIY versions use a wine cork as a stem! What a fun little craft project to work on leading up to Christmas.

Velvet Mushroom Decor

There are lots of ways to make fabric mushrooms, but these caught my eye for a couple of reasons. First, I love the subtle sheen of the velvet mushroom caps which make them look a wee bit magical. But I also love the idea of using sticks and twigs as mushroom stems, too.

Mushroom Decals

Here’s another way to create mushroom decor from thrifted finds. Applying decals to secondhand treasures is a fantastic (and budget-friendly) way to get that cottagecore-mushroom style without spending a lot of money.

Whimsical Halloween Decor

Speaking of thrift store finds, this basket was an exciting treasure that spoke to me. And when it spoke, it said “Fill me with mushrooms and a sweet, friendly ghost”; so, of course I listened and here we are! Creating sweet Halloween decor that is more enchanted than haunted is a fun alternative way to decorate for the holiday.

Wooden Bowl Caps

I love the ideal of cobbling together mushroom decor from any number of items. But how did I not think of doing that with wooden bowls? They are PERFECT as mushroom caps– and I love that these were left unpainted for a more natural, neutral display.

Recycled Yogurt Jars

I ALWAYS love a good Oui Yogurt jar craft, and this mushroom version is no exception. I especially love the black background that she gave it; that really elevates the look, both in style and in enchanted mystery (if you ask me)…

Herb’s a Fungi

Truth be told, most of us don’t actually need to label any of the plants in our garden. At least by the time they grow big enough! But when the garden markers are this adorable, why wouldn’t I label all my herb pots? Plus, they’re upcycled from something very few of us use anymore, so it’s truly a wonderful repurposing opportunity.

Hurricane Display

A hurricane-style candle holder or similarly shaped light fixture is begging to become some sweet little display. Which means mushrooms are the perfect choice, right? I love how wild and whimsical these turned out and will be hunting for my own hurricane to fill now.

Mushroom Decor Craft Ideas

I hope some of these fun fungi crafts have caught your eye. There are lots of different ways to usher in some mushroom decor around your home. Heck, you can even get this fabulous woodland LEGO set, which we absolutely love in our house! Talk about proof of how popular toadstools are these days, and how versatile the decoration ideas can get. Either way, happy thrifting, upcycling, creating, and mushrooming!
